NICK CANDY: Why the world should pray that Trump is victorious

He’s been the subject of two assassination attempts, yet Donald Trump will forever be in the scopes of a liberal elite – on both sides of the Atlantic – who find it incomprehensible that he could win the US presidency again.

So blinded by their loathing for him, they cannot see that the West is at the foothills of World War Three – and Trump is the only man who can avert disaster. For, make no mistake, President Joe Biden is leaving the White House with the world in a far more dangerous state than Trump did in 2021.

Trump’s presidency was the first for decades in which the US avoided being sucked into foreign wars. During his watch, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates became only the third and fourth Arab countries to recognise Israel, mediated by White House adviser Jared Kushner and the Trump team.

Vladimir Putin did not dare to build on his 2014 invasion of Crimea, which happened during Barack Obama’s second term. He waited until Trump had left office before attempting to help himself to the rest of Ukraine.

There is no accident to this. Trump instinctively knows how to deal with dictators.

He knew that Kim Jong Un needed flattering as well as threatening and so paid him a state visit – after which North Korea’s sabre-rattling was much reduced.

And he knew that Iran needed a firmer hand. Trump withdrew from the hopelessly naive deal – negotiated by Obama – in which the despotic mullahs in Tehran were offered sanctions relief if they accepted that their nuclear enrichment program was for domestic energy use only.

Iran’s real intention was plain, and now it is widely thought that the theocracy is just months away from developing a nuclear bomb.

On the home front under President Trump, the economy performed strongly until the Covid pandemic struck. And while he was eviscerated for his ambition to build a wall to keep out illegal migrants from Mexico, several of the most liberal Western nations have now tightened their border control policies accordingly.

The estimated number of illegal migrants living in the US fell during Trump’s presidency to a low of just over 10 million in 2019. It has rebounded to 11 million since Biden took office. Of course, migration has been the responsibility of Kamala Harris – but she has flunked it as she has flunked most things. Her public performances are embarrassing.

Only last week, during an evasive interview with Fox TV, she drifted off into meaningless platitudes. She took the American public for fools, too, over the ailing health of Biden, pretending even three months ago that he was ably running the show.

After the first attempt on Donald Trump’s life at a rally in Pennsylvania, with his ear still bloodied from the passing bullet, he cried: ‘Fight, fight, fight.’

Well, the world should ‘pray, pray, pray’ that he is elected on November 5, because only he can restore global stability.
