Cliff Richard set to tour Down Under – and his Gen Z followers are thrilled

Cliff Richard drew in swathes of adoring fans when he first made his musical debut in 1958 as Britain’s answer to Elvis Presley – and more than 60 years later, the Summer Holiday singer can still pack out a stadium it seems. 

The evergreen popstar, who’s just marked his 84h birthday, has sparked a frenzy of excitement amongst fans both young and old after announcing he will tour again – with one 28-year-old Australian fan saying his family introduced him to the British star’s music, and he can’t wait to catch him live again. 

The hitmaker will include both Australia and New Zealand on his 2025 tour, giving Antipodean fans the the first chance to see him live in more than 12 years.

In a video released last week, Cliff announced the news, saying: ‘I’m delighted to announce that I’m going to be on tour again in 2025 to celebrate my 80th – no that’s been done, hasn’t it – my 85th birthday.’

The tour will begin in November next year, with the singer doing four shows in New Zealand and Australia respectively. 

Sir Cliff’s Can’t Stop Me Now tour, will also see him perform at some of the UK’s most prestigious venues, including two nights at London’s prestigious Royal Albert Hall.

His name manages to permeate modern music, with crowds of young people still eager to get their hands on tickets to his concerts – despite his career first taking more over 60 years ago.

There are more than 24,000 members in one Facebook page – called Sir Cliff Richard Fans of the World.

The group contains fans from all over the world, including a number of youngsters who would sooner rather enjoy Summer Holiday than they would a Taylor Swift or Harry Styles’ track.

One 28-year-old, Gavin Walker from Australia, told The Times this week he can’t get enough of Sir Cliff’s music, having been introduced to it by his family as a child.

He told the publication: ‘I’m very famous, or infamous, among my friends for how much I like him and how I’m able to somehow insert him into every conversation.’ 

While Aussies and Kiwis have waited over 10 years for the opportunity to see Sir Cliff Richard again, Brits were able to see him in 2023 during a tour in his native UK.

But a break in performing this year fuelled concern among fans. 

Much to the delight of fans spanning the UK, Australia and New Zealand, Sir Cliff will be returning to the stage for an unforgettable tour. 

The pop legend is familiar with Australia, having visited then more than a dozen times over the course of his career. 

Fans will be treated to a setlist packed with timeless classics, including hits such as Living Doll, We Don’t Talk Anymore and Devil Woman.

Organisers of the event said in a statement: ‘Known for his energy, charisma, and enduring stage presence, Sir Cliff continues to capture hearts and inspire audiences as he has done across eight decades.’

‘With no further UK dates to be added, these shows are set to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience.’
