Back to the Future Day details from bizarre first identify to predicting widespread drunk

It’s nearly 50 years since Marty first took a ride in the now iconic gull-winged DeLoreon car whose fortune were save, albeit for a short period, on the back of the Hollywood films success. Each year Back to the Future fans celebrate today on October 21 as the official BTTF day.

It matters because this is the day in the film when time-travel first took place taking Michael J Fox back to Hill Valley 1955 and setting the trilogy on-track.

There’s some shelf-worth stuff we’ve uncovered too that’ll leave your wallet a little lighter but a big injection of nostalgia – not a puffa-jacket, extra-loud lycra workout leggings or ankle-warmer set in-sight.

While the title of the film seems to work just perfectly and tells you pretty much what to expect from the film but without any kind of spoiler but someone, well some people, originally lobbied for it to be called Spaceman from Pluto.

Now that would’ve led to a fair few disappointed cinema-goers.

We were also set to have an American fridge as the mode of transport rather than the sporty DeLorean DMC and we could’ve had Johnny Depp or Charlie Sheen in the driving seats, both auditioned by Mr Fox bagged the gig.

The directors watch him playing in hit sitcom Family Ties where he worked on set from 10am to 6pm then shoot over to the Back to the Future set where he would rehearse and shoot until 2:30am.

In BTTF Part II you can spot a young Elijah Woods in his first film way ahead of him being Frodo in Lord of the Rings.

This instalment of the trilogy managed to predict the existence of Pepsi Max, which only became a popular flavour in Europe in 1993.
