Gary Neville begins United ambassadorial position days after Fergie is brutally axed

Gary Neville has reportedly started a new ambassadorial role at Manchester United only days after Sir Alex Ferguson was removed from his role.

In a recent meeting between Ferguson and Sir Jim Ratcliffe, part owner of Man United, the 82-year-old was brutally axed by the club.

And just days later, according to The Sun, Neville has returned to the fold as a freelance ambassador after attending an event at the Minerva academy in Mohali, India.

Neville posted on his Instagram stories of his visit to Asia where he attended the Apollo Tyres flagship grassroots football programme. And it’s believed that the former full-back is part of the taskforce set up by Ratcliffe to build a ‘Wembley of the North’ for United.

Neville part owns Hotel Football next to Old Trafford currently.

Ferguson is widely regarded as one of the greatest managers of all time and remains the boss with the most trophies in this history of football. After retiring from management in 2013, the Scotsman stayed at the Red Devils as a global club ambassador and club director.

Ever since the introduction of Ratcliffe to the club when Ineos took over football operations, there have been a series of cost-cutting actions that have taken place.

Ferguson remains the heart and soul of Manchester United. Last week however, it was revealed that himself and other member of the board at the club had been told to stay away from the dressing room.

Although it is important for Ratcliffe to minimise the costs for United at the moment, a character like Ferguson would often be regarded as priceless.

The ex-manager has kept his title as a non-executive director of the club and sources insist he is still a close friend and is always welcome at the ‘Theatre of Dreams.’
