Birmingham Airport shuts down over bomb risk grounding flights in evacuation chaos

Birmingham Airport has been shut down with all flights grounded following a bomb scare. Travellers have been told to steer clear of airport, with official advice being “not to travel” to the site.

West Midlands Police were seen swarming the airport, whilst officials are yet to confirm exactly what has happened. However, a photo circulating online revealed that police cars were now blocking entry to the airport.

In a statement, Birmingham Airport said on social media site Twitter/X: “WMP is currently on-site dealing with an incident. Airport operations are currently suspended. Passengers are advised to NOT come to the airport at this time. The Airport’s social media channels will be updated as and when the situation changes.”

Eyewitnesses are claimed that a bomb squad was seen inside one of the terminals, but this not been officially confirmed. It has also been claimed that several aircraft have passengers onboard, unable to leave.

One user posted: “My mum and dad are stuck on a plane at Birmingham airport. They have no idea what’s going on they just got back from Spain.”

And another wrote: “I am stuck on a plane, claustrophobic, pleading to get off. How long is this situation going to take?”

A third said: “Very thankful to have managed to get off our flight from Dubai that arrived at 12.30. Chaos outside and had to walk to car park 5 to be picked up by our taxi.”
