Meet the Man Utd starlet who’s ‘too good to disregard’ and could possibly be set for a primary staff debut
Manchester United pride themselves on their academy products and are set to give another young prospect his debut in the coming weeks.
Talented striker Gabriele Biancheri has been impressing for the U19s and recently scored a brace in a 5-2 victory over Lithuanian side FK Zalgiris in the UEFA Youth League.
The recently turned 18-year-old is now up to 14 goals in all competitions for United’s youth sides this season and is making a strong case for being handed a first-team opportunity. The Red Devils signed Biancheri from Cardiff City in 2023 and the Welshman’s potential is truly off the scale.
It’s the first time a United youngster has been talked about this highly since the breakthrough of star Alejandro Garnacho who has since established himself as a key player under Erik ten Hag. United aren’t blessed with top-quality talent up front at the moment with questions still to be asked of Rasmus Hojlund and new signing Joshua Zrikzee.
Biancheri possesses an acute finishing ability and his movement inside the box is way beyond his years hence the noise surrounding him. Ten Hag has also been loud on the need for rotation with United currently competing in three different competitions. Their upcoming EFL Cup last-16 tie against Leicester City might be the perfect chance to hand the Welshman his debut.
How the club manages Biancheri’s growth will be key given the pressure placed on whoever leads the line. But despite their troubles, United are statistically the best team in the country at producing academy talent, having developed 47 players who as of 2023 were active in the world’s best leagues.
Ten Hag is also fighting for his job, so if United’s current crop doesn’t start scoring soon, he may have no choice but to roll the dice one final time and put his faith in the 18-year-old.
