Roberto Mancini set for ‘over £60million’ regardless of being axed as Saudi Arabia boss

Roberto Mancini is set to make over £60m over the next three years even after Saudi Arabia sacking.

The Italian was axed as manager of Saudi Arabia on Thursday after 14 months on the job. He left via a ‘joint agreement’ after he could only get his team to seven wins in 18 matches.

The 59-year-old landed the role in August last year after quitting his job at Italian boss surprisingly. The deal was worth a reported £77m on a four-year deal.

Working on the idea that the remainder of his contract will be paid out in full, Mancini will still receive £60m until his contract was meant to be over in 2027.

When the ex-Manchester City boss put pen-to-paper for Saudi, he was the highest-paid manager in the world. His contract had him earning £59,000 pounds a day.

It wasn’t like he hadn’t earned the position.

In England, he famously won the Premier League in the 2011/12 season with thatSergio Aguero goal. He also won 3 Serie A titles with Inter Milan. The Italian also won the Euros in 2020 as manager of his home team Italy. He was a successful manager.

In Saudi, it hadn’t been going his way however. After a 0-0 draw with Bahrain, a football match lacking any skill, Mancini was seen arguing with fans. It was already being reported by Italian media that he had fallen out with players, and the Bahrain bore-draw only added to the distaste.

He said after the game: “Sometimes I think the players have to take responsibility. In my life, when I was a player, I took the responsibility because it’s easy to say it’s the coach’s fault. It’s too easy.

“But many times it’s not like this. Because when the coach teaches the team everything and they have improved as a team, after, some players have to put on the pitch some quality.

“If they don’t have it, it’s clear that it’s difficult.”
