Urgent recall issued on ‘don’t eat’ product bought in Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Waitrose

Customers have been warned after a popular snack sold in Tesco, Waitrose, Sainsbury’s and Ocado has been recalled.

The product, a cereal bar, contains an ingredient the company failed to declare on their packaging. Almonds run through the product, which could be lethal to some customers who are intolerant or allergic.

The product in question is named Perkier Salted Caramel Dark Chocolate Bar. It is usually sold in a multipack, with three bars which each weight 37grams. The box is a light blue with the logo in bright red over the front, with a picture of the bars.

The Food Standards Agency released a statement: “Perkier Foods is recalling the above product from customers and has contacted the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall.

“The company has also issued a point-of-sale notice to its customers. These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product.”

Perkier Foods added their own comments in a desperate warning to consumers: “Perkier Foods is recalling the above product with the Best Before date of October 8, 2025 because it contains almonds which are not mentioned on label.

“This means that the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to almonds.

“We are asking customers who have purchased the above product who have an allergy to almonds not to consume it and to return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund (with or without a receipt).

“No other products have been affected by this issue. Perikier would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

Allergic reactions cause several symptoms with varying degrees of severity. Signs can include, skin rashes, runny and stuffy noses, shortened breath, hives, swollen lips, throat tightening and several others. The severely allergic can also experience anaphylaxis shock.

Waitrose added: “We are recalling Perkier Salted Caramel Dark Chocolate bars due to the product containing undeclared almonds. Do not consume, package up the item and return the product to your local Waitrose & Partners branch for a refund.”

Nut allergies are amongst the most common in the UK, affecting about 1 in 50 children and 1 in 200 adults.
