Netflix followers hail ‘intense and terrifying’ new film ‘the thriller of the yr’ because it soars to the highest of the charts simply days after launch

Netflix fans have hailed new movie Don’t Move as the ‘thriller of the year’ as it soared to the top of the charts just days after its release. 

Don’t Move, produced by Sam Raimi, tracks the story of Iris (Yellowstone star Kelsey Asbille), a woman who finds herself in a dire situation in the middle of the forest of Big Sur, California. 

Grieving the loss of her son Mateo, she encounters a man called Richard (Finn Wittrock), who offers her comfort in her time of need. 

However, when she decides to head home, Richard tasers her, ties her up, and injects her with a substance that gives her just 20 minutes before her entire body shuts down. 

Now she’s on a race against time to get to safety as the drug slowly begins to paralyse her, stopping her from being able to scream and over time, move.

However, as she races the clock Richard isn’t far behind and is ready to make her his latest victim.

The movie has proven a hit with viewers, with Don’t Move shooting to number one on Netflix within days of its release. 

Fans took to X, formerly Twitter, to express their thoughts on the new movie.

One fan wrote: ‘Prepare yourself for an intense one if you plan to watch From the beginning until the end. Whew, terrifying.’; ‘This is what I was expecting when I saw the trailer. One and a half hour of pure suspense and tension. Kinda predictable but overall, an engaging thriller.’ 

‘#DontMove was a tense watch… Beautifully shot with good performances. Wouldn’t have minded to be put through the emotional wringer a bit more, but it was consistently engaging.’ 

‘#DontMove is an instant masterpiece by none other than Sam Raimi. Filled with spectacular shots & intense/grotesque scenes with an epic ending. Must watch!’

The new hit movie comes as Netflix drops some of its most anticipated films of the year – most notably Anna Kendrick’s Woman Of The Hour. 

The Pitch Perfect star’s directorial debut follows the true crime story of Rodney Alcala, a Los Angeles serial killer in the 1970’s who shot to notoriety after being caught when it was discovered he was once a contestant on The Dating Game. 

The movie follows the unlucky ‘bachelorette,’ who meets him as a result of the show, and her awkward interactions with him after picking him to go on a date with.

Don’t Move is available to watch now on Netflix. 

Elsewhere, Netflix fans went wild over a ‘brilliant’ psychological thriller and told fellow movie lovers ‘it was a fun ride’.

Posting on the Facebook group Netflix Bangers, which has over three million members, one user wrote: ‘Please review this film before I start watching’. 

In response, fans of the picture in question commented: ‘I love this movie’;  ‘Loved it, brilliant film’; ‘It was a fun ride’. 

Viewers were referring to Kate, a psychological thriller that follows its eponymous lead character, played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead, an assassin, whose mentor and handler (Woody Harrelson) orders her to kill a high-ranking yakuza boss. 

During Kate’s final mission, she finds out that she has been poisoned and has at most a day to live.

After learning that she was given radiation poisoning by a man named Stephen, Kate steals injectable stimulant drugs and a gun and sets out to exact revenge on who might have ordered him to poison her. 

Scenes were shot in a variety of different locations across the globe, including Thailand, Tokyo and Los Angeles. 

Released in September 2021, the film had mixed reviews from critics, who praised Winstead’s performance as the lead but otherwise found the film ‘disappointingly derivative of numerous other female assassin films’. 

It compared slightly more favourably on aggregator sites – where fans gave scores based on their own feedback from the film. 

On IMDb, the picture scored 6.2 out of 10, with a slightly lower score of 52% on Rotten Tomatoes.
