Bruno Fernandes exhibits true colors with message to Erik ten Hag after Man Utd boss sacked
Bruno Fernandes sent a warm message to Erik ten Hag following his Manchester United sacking.
United announced that Ten Hag had left the club following the controversial Premier League defeat against West Ham on Sunday, leaving the Red Devils 14th in the table and with just one win in eight games. Ten Hag’s assistant Ruud van Nistelrooy has been named interim manager.
The United captain posted a message of thanks and best wishes for his departed boss on social media. Under Ten Hag, Fernandes lifted the Carabao Cup and FA Cup in consecutive seasons and became club captain before the start of the last season and signed a new contract in the summer.
Fernandes became the first United player to publicly comment on Ten Hag’s dismissal, he wrote on Instagram: “Thanks for everything, boss! I appreciate the trust and the moments we share together, I wish you all the best.
“Even knowing the last period hasn’t been great from all of us, I hope you fans can keep with you the good things Erik has done for our club”.
The 30-year-old led United out at Wembley in both finals, picking up an assist for Kobbie Mainoo’s winner against Manchester City in the FA Cup final last season. Fernandes played 120 games under the former Ajax boss, registering 61 goal involvements.
Fernandes is yet to score this season and was twice sent off. The Portuguese saw red against Tottenham Hotspur and Porto in successive crucial games, with the Spurs sending-off later rescinded despite VAR recommending a red card.
Van Nistelrooy will take charge of his first United game on Wednesday against Leicester City in the Carabao Cup before his first Premier League match sees United take on Chelsea on Sunday.
