Erik ten Hag hides in automobile as Man Utd flop leaves dwelling and heads again to Holland

Ex-Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has been spotted for the first time since his dismissal, seemingly attempting to avoid the cameras from the backseat of a car.

The Dutchman was given his marching orders on Monday following United’s weekend loss to West Ham United, a result that sees them languishing in 14th place. Despite leading United to an FA Cup victory last season, Ten Hag presided over a disastrous Premier League campaign which saw them finish eighth, a whopping 31 points behind their city rivals.

After their 2-1 defeat to West Ham, he was shown the door, being replaced by Ruud van Nistelrooy, who was part of Ten Hag’s coaching staff. The ex-United striker, who joined Ten Hag’s team this past summer, will take the reins for his inaugural game as United boss this Wednesday against Leicester City in the Carabao Cup, reports Liverpool.com.

And Ten Hag has now been seen in public for the first time since his dismissal. The former United gaffer was spotted inside a black Mercedes, attempting to shield his face from the cameras, with only a portion of his head visible in the back seat of the vehicle.

Earlier this year, it was widely speculated that United were planning to sack Ten Hag, regardless of the outcome of the FA Cup final where they triumphed over City 2-1 at Wembley. However, after publicly stating that Ten Hag would be sacked, United made a surprising U-turn, opting instead to offer the Dutchman a new contract.

The defeat to West Ham United proved to be Erik ten Hag’s last game in charge

Manchester United announced the departure of their manager with a statement saying: “Erik ten Hag has left his role as Manchester United men’s first-team manager.”

“Erik was appointed in April 2022 and led the club to two domestic trophies, winning the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024. We are grateful to Erik for everything he has done during his time with us and wish him well for the future.”

They also confirmed his temporary replacement: “Ruud van Nistelrooy will take charge of the team as interim head coach, supported by the current coaching team, whilst a permanent head coach is recruited.”
