Ruben Amorim’s life away from soccer – staggering web value and inside designer WAG

Ruben Amorim is the frontrunner to be the new Manchester United manager following Erik ten Hag’s sacking on Monday.

Amorim, 39, saw his career skyrocket when he was promoted from Braga B to first-team coach and clinched the Taca da Liga in his fifth game in charge. After just three months at the helm, he became the third-most expensive manager in history as Sporting shelled out for his hefty release clause.

Since then, Amorim has bagged two league titles, breaking Sporting’s 19-year dry spell, and two more League Cups. This season, Sporting have won their first nine league games and are eighth in the Champions League table. United are working to reach an agreement for Amorim and here’s a deeper dive into his personal life.

Net worth

Amorim became one of football’s most costly coaches when Sporting splashed the cash to bring him over from Braga in March 2020. The Lisbon giant coughed up for his £8.3million (€10million) release clause after identifying Amorim as a top young coach.

Given that he spent almost his entire playing career in the Portuguese top-flight – split between spells at Belenenses, Benfica and Braga – Amorim would have pocketed significant sums before becoming a coach. The Sun estimates that Amorim has a net worth of around £13m.

United reportedly will have to match the huge release clause that Sporting paid to secure Amorim’s services at Old Trafford. The club might need to move quickly as Amorim has been linked with potentially replacing Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.

Relationship with wife

Amorim married Maria Joao Diogo in 2013 at the Palacio e Mosteiro de Sao Marcos in Coimbra, with 160 guests in attendance. Three years later, the couple welcomed their son Miguel into the world. The Sporting chief has kept his private life low-key, but it’s thought that he first met his wife while playing for Benfica.

During his two loan spells at Braga, Amorim formed a bond with Sporting’s director of football Hugo Viana, who is set to join Man City next season. Not only have Amorim’s ties to the ex-Newcastle United midfielder propelled his coaching career, they’ve also aided his wife’s business ventures.

Maria, a graduate in telecommunications engineering (pictured below, left), co-founded her Dois Tons interior design firm with Viana’s wife, Raquel Gomes (right), in 2019. Their clientele includes high-profile figures like former Portugal striker Nuno Gomes.

Football family

Amorim is tied to a larger footballing dynasty through marriage. His former Benfica team-mate Luis Filipe is married to Maria’s sister, Ines.

Filipe won two Primeira Liga titles and played for major clubs such as Sporting, Benfica and Braga, earning three caps for Portugal B in the process. Since retiring, he has bought a raspberry farm.

Amorim’s other brother-in-law is ex-PSG sporting director Antero Henrique, who is married to Daniela Diogo. Henrique is known for securing Neymar’s record-breaking transfer from Barcelona to PSG in 2017 and has been working with the Qatar Stars League since 2022.
