Poundland is chopping costs of 500 ‘important’ merchandise simply in time for Christmas
A major high street discount retailer is set to slash the prices of 500 products ahead of Christmas – but not quite how you’d expect. Despite being called Poundland, the retailer doesn’t actually sell a lot of products for the low price of just £1.
However, to combat that and the cost of living crisis, bosses have decided to drop the prices of 500 essential products to just £1 ahead of Christmas. An 800g Kingsmill loaf will be slashes from £1.25 to £1, two litre milk from £1.45 to £1, and boxes of six free range eggs dropping from £1.50 to just £1.
They have also announced that about one third of its typical “core range” of around 5,000 products will go to the benchmark price or even less starting from tomorrow (November 1).

There will also be new “fresh produce” stands introduced to around 520 of its UK stores, selling items such as apples and oranges – although the prices of those have not yet been revealed.
Poundland commercial director CJ Antal-Smith said: “Most retailers look to re-focus customers on high price, big profit items at Christmas as customers splash the cash. While we have everything you need at Poundland for an amazing Christmas we’re not going to forget the importance of every day essentials that are the bedrock of every home’s cupboard and fridge.

“Amazing value milk, bread eggs and sugar will be every bit as important to customers this Christmas as they look to keep within their budgets.”
Despite the price cuts, many items on Poundland’s website are still way above the £1 expected price, including a 656g box of Yorkshire Tea price at £5.50, and 200g tins of Spam which are priced at a whopping £3.75 each.
You can, however, bag a 250ml bottle of IRN-BRU sugar free for just 35p, so there is that . . .
