Can you recognise these sports activities stars of their Halloween costumes? Tennis hero turns into freaky clown, ex-England star turns into a vampire and who’s the Man United legend within the masks?

  • Sports stars are back at it with a range of scary – and not so spooky – costumes
  • Can you guess who is dressed as Michael Myers? King Kong? A clown?

Halloween: the perfect time to turn away devastated kids at your door because you have ‘nothing left’ before tucking into a box of chocolates on the couch.

It’s also the ideal day to try your luck with a fateful knock on a stranger’s door in the hope they might take mercy on your sweet tooth.

But what if your neighbour opened the door looking like one of the following? Could you dare to stammer out the obligatory three-word salutation, or would you run a mile?

Sports stars have been showing off their costumes and designs on social media once again. We’ve been treated to a tennis clown, a footballing vampire, an… old man mask, a striker wielding a double-edged axe, a boxer as Mike Myers and Freddy Krueger, a golfer as King Kong, and a Manchester United star as Spiderman.

Can you guess who they are?

Exhibit A:

No points for guessing that this is Andy Murray because, no offence, it’s bloomin’ obvious.

The three-time Grand Slam winner retired from tennis after the Paris Olympics, where he reached the men’s doubles quarter-finals with Dan Evans.

Murray was denied what should have been his Wimbledon swansong after Emma Raducanu withdrew from their mixed doubles event injured, though he did get to play in front of Centre Court one last time with brother Jamie before that.

‘Hope you are all enjoying Halloween as much as me,’ the Scot wrote on Instagram as he flaunted his polka dot clown costume and oversized pants.

‘Never seen you looking so lovely as you did tonight,’ wrote one fan.

Mail Sport costume rating: 6/10.

 Exhibit B:

This one would be rock-solid unless you were already familiar with his tapestry of tattoos.

The above is none other than David Beckham, his face obscured by an ‘Old Man Mask’.

It is complemented by an ‘I love bingo’ hat and if you’re a discerning customer you can pick one up for around £30 online. The low-effort costume is described as ‘great for playing a retired male gambler, retired male shopper, store greeter, grandpa’.

‘I do love bingo nights,’ Manchester United legend Beckham wrote on Instagram, tagging his family.

Unlucky to any Man City fans who have lost to Becks down at the ol’ bingo hall.

Mail Sport costume rating: 3/10.

 Exhibit C:

I had absolutely no idea who this character was supposed to be, but apparently it’s Grace Jones’ vampire character called Katrina from the creatively titled 1986 film ‘Vamp’.

Alex Scott is the mystery lady and she has a proud history of Halloween costumes, having also made it on to Mail Sport’s compilation of spooky outfits last year as a clown, and a more terrifying one than Andy Murray.

The 140-time England international and BBC pundit has already amassed more than 50,000 likes on her post showing off her costume.

However, points must be docked for the fact that she posted the images on Wednesday night.

Good effort overall, I’d say.

Mail Sport costume rating: 7.5/10.

Exhibit D:

If you can’t get this one and you claim to be a football fan, there’s not much hope for you.

If the ‘Erling’ logo, Norway flag, ‘Hallandween’ sign and clear face weren’t enough of a giveaway, the above is Manchester City striker Erling Haaland.

You’ll also notice that one sign on the left reads ‘future father’, a nod to the fact that he and girlfriend Isabel Haugseng Johansen are expecting their first child.

Haaland even unleashed a thumb-sucking celebration as he scored twice for Norway against Slovenia earlier this month to herald his offspring’s impending arrival.

This mock-up of him is certainly fearsome, what with the double-edged axe. I’d crawl away fast if I were that baby.

Mail Sport costume rating: It’s not a costume, mate.

 Exhibit E:

Not one, but two costumes – this chap is going the distance.

And that might transpire in the ring, if he ever gets round to fighting KSI again.

Of course, we’re talking about Tommy Fury, a ‘star’ of Love Island – if that’s what they’re called – and a boxer with an unbeaten record.

Ten fights and one draw, with his last bout coming in October last year as he scored a unanimous victory over YouTuber KSI.

Fair play to the 25-year-old, who is reportedly lined up to enter the Celebrity Big Brother House – he truly is unrecognisable here.

Mail Sport costume rating: 7.5/10.

 Exhibit F:

Ha, we’ve hoodwinked you on this occasion, because you’re not even sure who you’re supposed to be looking at!

They could be huge clues, however, if you’re familiar with the family of golfer Luke Donald, who on his own in the gorilla costume would be practically unguessable.

The former world number one, 46, is one of the few golfers to manage persistent glory both individually and in a team.

Last year he captained Team Europe to Ryder Cup victory and that has come after a remarkable career individually, with five PGA Tour wins and seven European Tour victories, though he has never claimed a major.

The winner for best costume of the evening for me, however, is the cute dog, AKA Archie the labradoodle.

Mail Sport costume rating: 7/10.

Dog costume rating: 10/10.

Exhibit G:

Alright, at this stage there’s no point even trying to guess. You win everything if you get this one. Any defeat you’ve ever suffered is annulled.

Inside the Spiderman costume is Manchester United midfielder Casemiro.

It is unclear how much of his £350,000 weekly wages went towards the outfit, though United could do with a superhero at the moment.

The Brazil star is unwinding for the evening with his wife Anna Mariana and their two children, Sara and Enzo.

‘Happy Halloween,’ he wrote on Instagram. Happy Halloween to you as well, Casemiro. Cheers bud.
