Newlyweds £100k lottery scratchcard win on the identical particular place as marriage ceremony evening
A newlywed couple celebrated a £100,000 lottery scratchcard win at the same special place they spent their wedding night.
Will Mahonn, 56, and Emma, 50, said they are still in disbelief after landing the prize just months after tying the knot in June.
They returned to The Aviator hotel near their home in Farnborough, Hants to mark the occasion.
Digger driver Will said he even had an Only Fools and Horses moment when a pub manager confirmed his win on the Black Pearl National Lottery Scratchcard.
Everyone in the boozer erupted with cheers and screams of excitement, just like in the classic sitcom when Del Boy and Rodney finally become millionaires and The Nags Head crowd goes wild. Will, who loves to DJ in his spare time, said: “I had left my van at my local pub on the Friday night after a late night of DJing, so on Saturday morning I was just waiting for the bus so that I could go and collect it.
“As I had a bit of time before it arrived, I decided to buy a few Scratchcards from the corner shop. I was excited enough after scratching the first one and winning £35, but it came as a complete surprise when I scratched away the £100,000 win on the next Scratchcard.”
When Emma then rang him to discuss what to buy their grandchildren for Christmas, he replied: “We can buy them whatever we like because I’ve just won £100,000.” She responded: “I don’t believe you.”
When he eventually made it to where his van was parked, he showed the scratchcard to the pub boss to make sure it had actually happened. She confirmed that it looked like he had definitely won which is when the pub broke out in celebration.
The couple plan to use the cash to pay off a cruise around Spain and France in 2026.
Will has also taken a week-long fishing trip, while they plan to share some of the money with their two 27-year-old children.
He said he will continue to play scratchcards as he thinks he’s got a bit of a “knack for winning”.
The couple had also been given a free upgrade to the honeymoon suite on their wedding night. Will said: “I think it has finally sunk in that the money is ours, and we’re so happy to be able to celebrate it with our family.
“We have had such an incredible year so far; with the wedding, the honeymoon and the room upgrade on our wedding night, and now we can make a few more upgrades in the future without hesitation thanks to the win.”
