Man Utd certain ‘confirmed winner’ Ruben Amorim ‘notably completely different’ from Erik ten Hag – and why
Manchester United are convinced Ruben Amorim will be ‘notably different’ from Erik ten Hag.
Amorim, 39, was announced as United boss on Friday (November 1) – and figures at the club are confident Amorim is distinct in his approach to Ten Hag, 54, who was sacked on Monday after guiding United to their worst ever start to a Premier League season.
A proven winner, the Portuguese boss has exclusively managed in his homeland – but he has a track record of success at both Braga and Sporting CP. At Braga he claimed the Taca da Liga (the Portuguese cup) before moving to Lisbon, where he was won the league twice and the cup again.
Amorim was the only manager United targeted and sources at the club told Daily Star Sport it is considered he has the correct style of play, plus the personality and eagerness to development of young players, that will see him fit in well at the Red Devils.
United also believe he will work well with their new sporting structure under the INEOS umbrella and that he is notably different from previous head coaches.
Execs at the Red Devils believe Amorim will bring a new style and approach that is part of a broader evolution of their football structure. However, Amorim’s coaching staff for his new job are yet to be confirmed – and their announcement will be made at a later date.
Amorim will arrive at Old Trafford on November 11, ahead of the international break and earlier than the Red Devils have expected due to his notice period in his Sporting contract.
The Portuguese’s first match in charge will come on November 24, when United travel to Ipswich Town. However, before that, Amorim still has the small matter of Sporting’s Champions League clash with the Red Devils’ bitter rivals Manchester City next Tuesday.
