Frank Warren says Liam Davies prepared for ‘The Monster’ Naoya Inoue if he beats Shabaz Masoud

Liam Davies is a generous man – he has said this week he will grant Naoya Inoue a rematch in Telford when he beats him.

There may be some tongue firmly in cheek there, but there’s no doubt the Shropshire scrapper would relish a shot at the man they call ‘The Monster’. And we would have no problem in making the fight with the Japanese all-conquering superstar.

That’s how much we believe in our boxer. He will get his passport out and bags packed to head to Japan any time. But before we can even start to think about taking on undisputed champion Inoue, Davies must first win on Saturday night.

It’s no easy fight, either. Liam takes on fellow unbeaten man Shabaz Masoud in a proper super-bantamweight scrap at Resorts World in Birmingham. Yet another instalment of Queensberry against Matchroom, of course.

Eddie Hearn managed to get one back with Skye Nicolson beating Raven Chapman for the WBC featherweight women’s title last month. But I think we’re still 6-1 up after the 5v5 whitewash and then Daniel Dubois walloping Anthony Joshua.

Hopefully it will be a magnificent seven with Liam. The fighter himself has a great story. During Covid-19 lockdowns, he was an inexperienced pro with opportunities not coming thanks to the lack of boxing allowed on.

So he got himself back out at his old job working the bins to make sure the bills got paid. That shows you his character. But he got his chance with us after the restrictions were lifted and he hasn’t looked back.

Liam has gone on to win the British and European titles at super-bantamweight before claiming the IBO back in March. Masoud is highly thought of by our rival promoters but I’m very confident it will be Liam who remains unbeaten.

It’s an exciting card in Birmingham tonight with Chantelle Cameron looking to move a step closer to getting her trilogy fight with Katie Taylor when she faces Patricia Berghult in an interim WBC light-welterweight clash.

Ekow Essuman against Ben Vaughan is certainly a welterweight scrap to keep an eye on with some of our best young talent also on show.
