Meredith Kercher’s household slam new Disney drama on Amanda Knox’s wrongful conviction
Meredith Kercher’s family has slammed a new Disney drama being made about the wrongful conviction of Amanda Knox.
A lawyer for the murdered British student’s family denounced plans to make a series about the American who was convicted of the killing, only to later be cleared.
“We’ve already spoken about this case too much and at a certain point you have to close the chapter,” said lawyer Francesco Maresca. This continuous stirring is a demonstration of a lack of sensitivity. She earns money, obtains visibility on the television after many years.
“It seems that Knox does not want people to forget about this story and does all she can to keep it alive.”
The creative team for the series, titled Amanda: A Coming of Age Horror Story, includes Knox as executive producer.
Monica Lewinsky, whose own story about her 90s affair with US President Bill Clinton has been turned into a Disney-backed series, is credited as co-producer.
Stephanie Kercher said the loss of her sister Meredith had left “an indescribable void”.
She added: “She will forever hold a lasting legacy in friendship and kindness that no media can change.”
Rudy Guede, from the Ivory Coast, was eventually convicted for Meredith’s murder after his DNA was found on her body.
He served 13 years of a 16-year sentence and was freed from prison in 2021 for good behaviour.
