Liverpool despatched ideally suited switch message from ‘subsequent Mohamed Salah’ as Arne Slot eyes legend’s exit
Liverpool’s hunt for Mo Salah‘s potential heir is gaining steam with Omar Marmoush making all the right noises. The 25-year-old Eintracht Frankfurt sensation has been causing a stir in Bundesliga, with his goal-scoring spree putting him firmly on the Anfield radar.
Standout performances have propelled Frankfurt to third in the league table, and the Egyptian’s contract isn’t up until June 2027. With nine games under his belt this term, Marmoush has knocked in 10 goals and set up six others.
Marmoush proved again why he’s so highly rated, with a stunner of a free-kick against Slavia Prague in Europa League action – maintaining Frankfurt’s unbeaten run. From just outside the box, the forward whipped it over the wall and into the top left, leaving the keeper no chance and the fans ecstatic.
His knee-sliding celebration was all part of the show that’s got Europe’s top clubs queuing up.
Didi Hamann, the Liverpool legend, is among those singing Marmoush’s praises. Last month on wettbasis.com he hinted that both Marmoush and teammate Hugo Ekitike could be dazzling Premier League crowds soon. He said: “I think that both Frankfurt strikers (Marmoush and Hugo Ekitike) are on the radar of the English.”
The footie pundit has been full of praise for the stunning pair, saying: “A wonderful couple that harmonise very well with each other. With Ekitike, we knew that he had great potential. He had indicated that last season, in the winter, and now he seems to be taking off.”
Hamann gushed even further about Marmoush, noting his surprise at past underuse: “With Marmoush, I was always surprised at Wolfsburg that he didn’t really get going. But he’s a wonderful player, a great finisher, and has pace. So they’re both players who are obviously very interesting for the Premier League.”
The German expert then put his two cents in on the challenge of succeeding Salah, saying: “It will be difficult to follow Salah. I don’t think he has missed ten games in eight or nine years. So it will be difficult to follow him, but I would trust Marmoush to do it.”
Talking about Mo Salah’s shaky future at Anfield, the stakes are high as his contract winds down, reports the Liverpool Echo. Come January, he’s fair game for foreign clubs to chat up for a cheeky summer swoop – that is unless Liverpool can charm him with a fresh deal pronto.
If Salah doesn’t sign along the dotted line soon, it’s crunch time for the Reds. Do they play the long game hoping Salah stays, risking losing him for nought, or cash in during the January sale?
Last year, rumour mills were ablaze with chit-chat about Salah fancying a stint in the Saudi Pro League, but nothing came of it.
