Patrice Evra says Man Utd team-mate was chubby and in love with McDonald’s
Patrice Evra named his Champions League winning team-mate at Manchester United who was obsessed with fast food.
The former French captain lifted the European Cup in 2008 in what was one of Alex Ferguson’s greatest ever eras. But the left-back said one player was too focused on McDonald’s to get the most out of his career.
He was speaking to comedian Shane Todd on his Tea With Me podcast about scoring against Glentoran in Belfast in 2007.
Todd, a Manchester United fan, said he was at the match and he remembered Anderson producing “one of the best performances” he had ever seen.
Responding, Evra said: “It was but he just loved McDonald’s. But he could have been. I was always telling him and he would say ‘Patrice, when I see the big M it is like Christmas ’. True story.
“Seriously, he is one of the most talented and gifted but he had some problem with his weight.
“I remember one day I was with Ferguson and Ferguson says ‘Anderson come here’. He said ‘Ando, I’ve spoke with the doctor, you need to eat healthy’ and whatever.
“Then Ando just asked the gaffer, ‘how much you earn in pay a week’? Ferguson was like, ‘what’? He said ‘maybe when I have the same salary I am going to start eating salad’. True story.”
One year after United beat Glentoran 3-0, the Red Devils lifted the Champions League after defeating Chelsea on penalties.
Brazilian Anderson scored in the penalty shootout and the midfielder made 105 appearances for Man Utd. He was at Old Trafford for eight years after he was signed for £20million from Porto and despite not living up to expectations, he pocketed four Premier League winning medals.
And he once shut down fat jibes on social media in 2012 and replied to the comments with the line “Im not fat… I’m sex hahahah”.
On the same podcast, Evra also revealed the reason why French people actually “hate” Thierry Henry while also giving an uncomfortable reply over whether he “showered with P Diddy” at United.
