Germany legend virtually moved into ‘drug supplier’s horror home’ after MLS swap
Marco Reus’ move to the MLS got off to a horror start before even stepping foot on the pitch.
After 12 iconic years at his beloved Borussia Dortmund, the German joined LA Galaxy in the MLS. Many experienced footballers have taken a similar move to play in America towards the end of their career. Steven Gerrard joined Galaxy, Wayne Rooney played and managed at D.C. United and David Beckham famously retired whilst playing for the Los Angeles based team.
A move to LA guarantees constant sunny days and big houses. However, what Reus wouldn’t have expected is the nightmare house hunting he and his partner undertook. After viewing close to 30 properties, they decided on two in which Reus picked his favourite.
When it came to the inspection, the couple noticed a kicked in garage door and a broken window. The neighbour informed them that the house is “the only house in the community that is a horror house”. On the Paul Ripke podcast, Reus and his partner Scarlett detailed their experience.
The couple discovered that: “First a guy lived there who had crazy parties until late at night. Then a nice couple lived there and then a drug dealer or something.”
Reus continued about his neighbour: “At some point he found out that he was a complete drug dealer. Things were really going crazy. The FBI was already in the house with dozens of people.”
His wife added: “And before that, someone was killed in front of the house and then five guys who were laundering money moved in. The cleaning lady gave tips to other.
“They broke in and emptied the house. And then two weeks ago, 12 FBI agents came in and stormed the house and arrested all the guys in there.”
With all the crazy new information that they learnt, the couple chose wisely against picking that house. Out of the original two they shortlisted, they swapped to Scarlett’s choice in Newport Beach.
The issues didn’t end there however. Although they didn’t experience any more horror stories, Reus’ model wife said that: “We still have no hot water, no gas, no heating, none of that has been registered yet. Nobody tells you what you have to do here.
On the other hand, the German midfielders start to the MLS has been great. His debut saw him score and assist in a 2-0 victory, and his side are now in the MLS play-off quarter-finals.
