A critically acclaimed series that’s been dubbed ‘best show of the year by far’ is finally coming to a UK streamer.

Fans will be able to watch the ‘gripping and brilliant’ six-part series After The Party for free on Channel 4 from Wednesday November 20.

The drama, which is based in New Zealand, is about a woman who loses everything when she accuses her husband of a sex crime against her daughter’s teenage friend but no one believes her.

It follows the husband Phil (Peter Mullan) who returns to his hometown five years after the accusations by his ex-wife Penny (Robyn Malcolm).

As Penny’s old anger rises to the surface again, with her daughter pressuring her to move on, she must decide what’s more important – the truth or rebuilding her relationships with everyone around her.

‘I keep expecting someone from one of the big casting agencies in the states to recognise her talent and swoop down to cast her in some ridiculous budget Hollywood thing.’

‘Just saw last episode. WOW.’

The Guardian’s critic Luke Buckmaster described Robyn’s performance as ‘one of the greatest in any TV show in years’.

He gushed: ‘No one impresses more than Malcolm, who really gets under your skin and pinches you from the inside.

‘The anguish she feels for being alone in her beliefs makes her increasingly desperate; watching Malcolm illustrate her reach and reach and reach is exhilaratingly painful.

‘It’s no overstatement to say that this great performance ranks among the best television portrayals in years, from anywhere in the world.’

Helen Bowden, Producer, told TV Zone: ‘Channel 4 is the perfect place for After the Party to screen in the UK. It’s the home of bold, authentic drama and Lingo Pictures and Luminous Beast are thrilled at this news.’

Polly Scates, Head of Acquisitions at Channel 4 added: ‘We’re thrilled that Channel 4 will be the UK home of After the Party. Full of twists, turns and stunning performances, this important series is sure to keep audiences guessing and stay with them long after the final episode.’

After The Party begins Wednesday 20th November at 9pm on Channel 4.
