Brits braced for ‘a number of days of snow’ as Met Office on verge of unleashing warnings

Brits are set to shiver as the Met Office has issued a chilling warning of snowfall alongside a “notable early winter cold spell” set to grip parts of the nation. According to the latest weather maps from WXCHARTS, a dramatic shift in weather conditions is expected to kick in from the weekend – which could see the Met Office release official cold weather warnings.

Come Tuesday, some areas could see the mercury plummet to a frosty -9C, with Scotland and Northern regions bearing the brunt of the icy temperatures. Wales is on high alert for Wednesday when around 23 centimetres of the white stuff could turn the region into a winter wonderland, while cities like Manchester might see up to 10cm of snow decorating the streets.

The Met Office forecasts gusty winds to sweep across the northern parts by Friday, with colder Atlantic currents arriving by evening. Meanwhile, southern areas can expect rain over the weekend, with snowy surprises potentially in store for the north.

Rebekah Hicks, the Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist, weighed in on the big freeze: “A notable early winter cold spell will arrive across the north from Sunday and will likely reach all parts of the UK by midweek.”

As Arctic gusts bring about a drop in temperature, the risk of snow flurries grows, particularly over northern high ground starting Sunday, accompanied by blustery winds. However, Hicks advised caution beyond Sunday, noting: “There is a lot of uncertainty in what might happen after Sunday, but there are a number of scenarios which could bring some more widespread rain, along with some hill snow and stronger winds.”, reports the Express.

Forecasters are cautioning about possible widespread snowfall at ground level, with one revealing: “It is possible that there may be some more widespread snowfall across lower ground, but the chance of this for any given region is low at this stage.

“What we do know is that the whole of the UK is likely to experience a spell of several days of cold, potentially disruptive weather next week. Warnings for wintry hazards, including snow and ice, are possible, so it’s important to stay up to date with the latest forecast.”
