AMANDA PLATELL: Amanda Abbington’s referred to as me a ‘scheming, mendacity, bitchy bully’ on Facebook. Well Amanda… this is what I consider YOU

Just when we thought the dust had settled on the Amanda Abbington versus Giovanni Pernice Strictly drama, up she pops again, this time launching a vicious personal attack on Facebook.

Remember, this is the woman who accused Giovanni, her 2023 partner on the show, of ‘abusive and cruel’ behaviour – allegations he denied – and whose most serious complaints to the BBC about him were dismissed in an investigation by the Corporation.

Now she has lashed out again. This time at me and my colleagues at the Mail, Sarah Vine and Katie Hind. Although she does not name us, she posted our pictures beside a message saying: ‘These three women are making it their life’s work to destroy not only my 32 -year reputation but also my mental and emotional health and my daughter’s mental and emotional health. They are the lowest of the low, dreadful, scheming, lying, bitchy bullies.

‘I have no idea what I did to them to make them come after me with such venom, lies and anger but, my loves, you have rattled the wrong cage. You do not frighten me and you do not intimidate me. You’re all on my list and like a f****** elephant, I never, ever forget, I rarely forgive and I am stubborn, methodical and petty as f***. I feel sorry for all three of you and it baffles me why you live your lives with such anger, bitterness and frustration in your hard little hearts.’

These are really egregious accusations and I’d say defamatory, although I’m no legal expert. And they made me wonder why a clearly successful actress and mother of two would post such a hateful message.

Why rage against journalists covering a story you generated, Amanda? A story you continue to breathe life into with your TV appearances and interviews?

The message actually made me feel sorry for her and her family. Time for some radio silence, Amanda. Bask in your TV and theatre career, embrace your children, forget the bitterness – and be thankful for all the gifts you have.

Boots is using gender-neutral pronouns in its new Christmas ad. Jolly good, but am wondering how we’d make classic carols inoffensive to snowflakes? Perhaps we could start by singing O Come Let Us Adore They/Them?

Sharon Osbourne lost three stone on Ozempic – but now she’s stopped using the jabs she can’t put weight back on. In time we’ll realise no drug can make you slimmer without consequences for your health, or face (with all that saggy skin). And not many of us can afford the number of facelifts Sharon is said to have had.

Staggering that worklessness among the young has hit a ten-year high with 1.2 million of those aged 16 to 24 not studying full-time or even looking for a job, and many citing their mental health problems. I blame woke parents who indulge their diddums rather than sending them out to work as my parents did me. Crikey, there wasn’t much time to feel depressed on the fish section of Coles supermarket at 16, earning money and learning that, with work, comes that most precious of life lessons – respect for yourself.

Timothy and Pru’s legacy of love

After actor Timothy West’s death, aged 90, loving tributes cited his wonderful six-decade marriage to Prunella Scales which was immortalised in their Great Canal Journeys TV series.

It began as a travelogue then turned into a tribute to his wife after her 2013 dementia diagnosis. As their friend Joanna Lumley said: ‘Timothy and Pru convinced people dementia was not something you should always be afraid of, rather something you could embrace and live with and live with well.’

Paul’s nothing to Crowe about

Pompously distancing himself from Russell Crowe, star of Gladiator II Paul Mescal, the wimp in TV series Normal People, says: ‘I didn’t grow up falling in love with performances like Maximus.

‘It’s just a taste thing. I don’t want to be that kind of actor.’I don’t think there’s anything in what I’ve done that’s remotely similar to Russell Crowe.’ More’s the pity mate, after this somewhat Minimus performance.

Oti’s a supermum!

Respect for the adorable former Strictly star Oti Mabuse leaving her one-year-old daughter at home with her husband as she enters the I’m A Celeb jungle, insisting: ‘Mum has goals as well.’ And plaudits as the once body-perfect pro dancer embraces her new full-breasted mum figure in all its gloriousness.

Oti Mabuse says now is the right time for her to embrace the I'm A Celeb jungle despite leaving her one-year-old child at home

Trainee teacher Jacob Chouffot, 26, who shared more than 1,000 videos with fellow paedophiles of newborn babies being raped, is spared jail, with the judge concluding ‘he was not a direct danger to the public’. When will judges realise everyone who creates or shares images of infants being raped is a monster and a direct danger to innocent children?

It’s hard for actors to escape being stereotyped as a handsome assassin after playing James Bond, yet clearly Daniel Craig has managed it by appearing in a crumpled pinstriped suit to promote his role as a gay guy in the movie Queer. Just hoping for the sake of his gorgeous wife Rachel Weisz he doesn’t turn up at home looking like this, as she might be shaken – but certainly not stirred.

Profound revelations in her memoir from former lingerie model Melania Trump as she first arrived in New York: ‘JFK airport was crowded’. ‘After retrieving my luggage, I proceeded to the exit’. And that after meeting Donald, ‘maybe he saw me as someone he could have more in-depth conversations with?’ Indeed, like: ‘What colour thong will you be wearing tonight, darling?’

Westminster Wars

  • The supposedly independent Bank of England governor Andrew Bailey claims Brexit undermined the UK economy, as the PM promises a reset with Europe. Didn’t take them long to show their Remainer colours.
  • Civil servants demanding a four-day week claim they ‘deserve a good quality of life’ as compensation for earning less than they would in the private sector. Hate to tell these unsackable workers, but they wouldn’t last a week in the private sector.
  • Ex Tony Blair aide John McTernan says Starmer should do to protesting farmers what Thatcher did to the miners, that ‘it’s an industry we can do without’. Labour luvvies despise any worker outside an Islington postcode.
