Fed-up Brits warn of untamed ‘chook poo rip-off’ at well-liked Spanish vacationer resort

A British couple have warned of a sly scam common in a Spanish area after being targeted by fraudsters themselves.

Sue Oswick and her husband, who swapped blustery Blighty for the blue skies of Costa Del Sol, have spoken out about nasty ‘bird poo scammers’ who ultimately try to fleece you of your valuables.

While being splattered by bird droppings is bad enough, this scam would have you believe a bird has dropped a load on you, and while you are offered “help”, you are robbed unknowingly.

Incidents of the ‘bird poo scam’ have been noted in Costa del Sol

The expat Brits know this guise well, after falling victim to a scammer themselves.

The couple were taking a stroll along a river in Fuengirola when it happened. They only realised they had falled victim to the same when the thief tried to buy stuff on their cards in Mercadona.

Sue explained: “We were both splattered with what we thought was bird c***.

“This ‘nice’ man, who had just sat down on the next bench to us, jumped up and offered to help us clean ourselves up. He had water and tissues.

“He was helping to clean my husband’s shirt and shorts and then said we could keep the water to finish off. He then left.”

Sue received a message from her bank just 20 minutes later, reports The Olive Press.

She continued: “I got a text from Barclaycard fraud saying somebody had been trying to use our credit card in Mercadona.

“When my husband checked his phone, he noticed that two of his credit cards were missing.”

Some was also trying to use their cards in Benalmadena, the banks told Sue.

She said: “I think he may have had an accomplice who threw stuff onto us from the ramp behind where we were sitting.

“We thought he was a nice man for helping. How wrong we were, be careful in that park!”

A man who was recently arrested for carrying out bird poo scam in Benalmadena, made his “bird poo” out of mashed up biscuit which he would then through at his victims.
