Tesco grocery store to function on Cornwall’s first excessive road in additional than a century
Under development plans near Newquay, the first new high street in Cornwall for more than a century will feature a Tesco supermarket alongside artisanal shops.
Prince William’s Duchy of Cornwall, which has built the whole development, announced plans to begin construction of the store this year.
The Nansledan’s Market Street will be home to 40 businesses, including a Market Hall, a range of artisan shops, cafes and restaurants, as well as offices and a co-working space.

A spokesperson for The Duchy of Cornwall said: “The new Tesco store is expected to create around 100 jobs and will cover a footprint of 2,283 sq m (24,500 sq ft).
“Work on the supermarket will start first, quickly followed by the Market Hall and the initial retail and café spaces. The first buildings are expected to be available for occupation from 2026.”
With a modern communal design, the Market Hall aims to showcase Cornwall’s best and brightest street food vendors with a dining area downstairs and creative studio spaces above.
The area has already seen more than 800 homes built, with plans for a total of 4000, to make it a town in its own right.
Nansledan’s development manager, Sam Kirkness, said: “We’re delighted to have secured Tesco as part of Market Street’s exciting and diverse retail offer and are hugely encouraged by the number of direct approaches so far from local established businesses, independents and start-ups, all interested in becoming part of a modern-day high street and lifestyle destination for North Cornwall.”
Construction of Nansledan began in 2014 but is not expected to be completed until round 2045. It wants to become the destination for year-round shopping for local residents and visitors.
