Inside new Willy Wonka Grinch expertise dubbed ‘Mr Crumpit’ with Home Bargain’s vibes
Customers have been left in disbelief by a “disgraceful” Grinch themed ride at Glasgow’s Winterfest Christmas Market, that some claim is “a cart to take you around the Grinch’s section of Primark”.
Many have dubbed the ride “the new Willy Wonka Experience” after a previous attraction in the city became a viral sensation due to the controversy that surrounded the event. Elizabeth Hunter, 25, spent £5 to go on the ride and claimed it lasted less than 60 seconds, almost an extortionate £1 for every 10 seconds for the ride called “Mr Crumpit”.
The ride is decorated with various Grinch themed jumpers and socks and a lightly taped inflatable Grinch that Elizabeth said had an eerie resemblance to the £25 one she had seen previously sold at Home Bargains. She claims multiple times throughout her 60 second Grinch experience she thought the ride had malfunctioned.

To riders’ further disappointment the ride is not accompanied by any Christmas or Grinch themed music, just the mechanical sounds of the ride.
“I briefly thought the ride had broken down,” Elizabeth said, “as I sat there for seconds as the whirring intensified to an uncomfortable degree – but the ride turned a corner back into the daylight, and my cart crashed into an empty one in front, before an automated voice told me to get out of the ride.”
Initially, Elizabeth said she was intrigued after spotting posts online and wanted to see what the ride had in store, however she left the ride in state of disbelief at the audacity and was £5 poorer from the less than 60 second experience.
Social media users have widely slammed the attraction. One person said, “It looks like the Grinch made it himself.”
Another said the various pieces of clothing that decorated the attraction looked like, “Washing on the line.” A third commented, “The Primark pyjamas held up with B&M lights would’ve been my final straw.”
Winterfest organisers and M&N Events have been approached to comment.
