Brits high 20 hangover cures embrace nausea fixing protein king and curry – see full listing

A grease-packed full English breakfast with all the trimmings is officially the best hangover cure.

New research shows nearly 40% of UK adults opt for a plate piled with eggs, bacon, sausage, beans, mushrooms, black pudding and toast over any other “remedy” after a heavy night.

A strong black coffee was voted our second top hangover fix in the study from British Lion eggs. It was followed by a bacon and egg sandwich, banana and hot buttered toast.

And eggheads say the reason a full English works so well to beat a hangover is it contains eggs – central to helping beat a rough head and dodgy stomach.

Dietitian Dr Carrie Ruxton said: “Eggs carry an abundance of essential nutrients in a small package, including the hangover-busting cysteine, which is an essential amino acid that reduces nausea, headaches, and sometimes stress and anxiety by breaking down acetaldehyde, one of the worst by-products of alcohol metabolism.

“Eggs are also a source of high-quality protein which is proven to support appetite control, stopping you reaching for high calorie comfort foods later in the day.”

A spokesperson for British Lion Eggs, said: “It’s clear from the research that Brits are suffering when it comes to hangovers, with many of us turning to food to help us through.
