Tommy Cannon purchased a luxurious cabin cruiser regardless of being seasick each time

Funnyman Tommy Cannon has revealed how he bought a luxury cabin cruiser at the height of his fame – but got seasick every time he went out on it.

The 86-year-old, famed for his partnership with Bobby Ball – whose catchphrase was ‘Rock on, Tommy’ – said it was his biggest ‘money mistake’. The dad-of-five said he snapped up the boat when he and Bobby, who died in 2020, were doing a series of summer shows in Torquay in the 1980s.

He said, however, that apart from not being able to dock the boat, or even put the anchor down properly, he got seasick whenever he boarded his new cruiser.

Asked about his ‘biggest money mistake’, he said: “A cabin cruiser that I bought while doing a summer season with Bobby in Torquay in the 1980s.

“Don’t ask me what I paid for it, but it was too much.

“Every time I got on the boat I was sick.

“I was hopeless at docking it and didn’t even know how to put the anchor down.”

He confessed that he’d sold the cruiser by the end of the summer season – having it for less than three months.

He said: “I’d got rid of it before the end of the season.”

He also said that he and Bobby bought themselves matching gold Rolls Royces at the height of their fame in the 1980s.

Earlier this month, the legendary comic revealed he still keeps his comedy partner’s ashes at the bottom of the stairs in his house for company.

Tommy said: “Every time I come down the stairs they’re there and I say, ‘Morning pal!’”

Tommy is now getting set to sell off some of his memorabilia from the duo’s career on TV’s Celebrity Yorkshire Auction House.

He says: “It was just stacked up in the garage, I didn’t have room for it and so I thought let the public enjoy it. There are still a lot of our fans around.”
