More school soccer insanity as NC State and UNC gamers begin all-out brawl – and participant throws rival flag off the sector
NC State and North Carolina players became embroiled in an all-out brawl at the end of their game, in just the latest shameful act of violence on college football’s Rivalry Week.
Just hours after Michigan players were pepper-sprayed by police on the field at Ohio State, there was more fighting on the field across the country in Chapel Hill.
The NC State Wolfpack went into their rival North Carolina Tar Heels’ stadium and walked away with a win, attempting to plant their flag in midfield at the end of the game.
North Carolina wide receiver JJ Jones had other ideas, though, immediately grabbing it and launching it off the side of the field, leading to an all-out brawl between the players.
Jones was wearing the No 13 jersey of his tragic late teammate Tylee Craft, who died last month after a two-year cancer battle.
Following his death, the players have been sharing around his No 13 jersey to pay tribute to him.

The incident led to an all-out brawl on the field between UNC and NC State players on Saturday
On the field, Jones’ teammates rushed to back him up, and NC State players chased after him in a bid to retrieve their flag.
As you would perhaps expect, that led to all-out madness as both rosters began pushing, shoving and swinging punches at their rival players.
It all led to an unsavory scene on the field that marred the end of North Carolina coach Mack Brown’s time with the program.
He was fired earlier in the week but was allowed to lead the team into the rivalry game in Chapel Hill, but they lost 35-30 and he won’t coach the team in their bowl game next weekend.
NC State, meanwhile, are now bowl eligible after the victory took them to 6-6 overall. They have also won four straight against the Tar Heels.

Across the country in Michigan there was more violence when players were pepper-sprayed
Violence had earlier broken out at the end of the Michigan-Ohio State game, after the Wolverines headed to Ohio and sealed a shock win over the No. 2-ranked Buckeyes.
That brawl also began for a similar reason, when Michigan players attempted to plant their flag in midfield at Ohio Stadium.
Unlike in Chapel Hill, police stormed the field to intervene and the violence ended when they deployed pepper spray, which affected numerous Wolverines players.
It was announced shortly after that an immediate investigation had been launched into the bizarre circumstances on the field.
