Chelsea’s Cole Palmer needs to be ‘participant of the season’, followers declare, after wondergoal
Football fans on social media have branded Chelsea’s Cole Palmer the ‘player of the season’ after he scored a stunning strike against Aston Villa.
Enzo Maresca’s side climbed up to third in the Premier League after they beat Villa 3-0, with Palmer, Nicolas Jackson and Enzo Fernandez all finding the back of the net at Stamford Bridge. While Jackson’s goal was a neat finish and Fernandez’s was excellent, it was Palmer’s who was the pick of the bunch.
Following a free kick on the edge of the box, Chelsea played the ball out wide, with Noni Madueke looking to deliver a cross into the area. However, he instead opted to just give the ball to Palmer on the edge of the area, with the 22-year-old unfurling a stunning strike past goalkeeper Robin Olsen, who was rooted to the spot.

One fan wrote on X: “Barring injury, if Cole Palmer keeps this up, he might seal up Premier League player of the season. Unless Salah or Saka have something to say about it.”
A second added: “Sometimes you just gotta hold up your hands and accept greatness. Cole Palmer is INSANE.” A third said: “Lmfao I hope that Cole Palmer performance shut up all you idiots that were talking crazy on his name yesterday. Best footballer in the Premier League idgaf.”
A fourth commented: “If this is an out of form Cole Palmer, then we truly have the best player in the world.” A fifth said: “Unreal footballer, no English player had ceiling this high since Rooney. No English player had this long range finishing ability since Rooney.”
And a sixth said: “What a ludicrous finish/player. Amazing.”
