Dame Judi Dench’s parrot calls her a “slut”

Dame Judi Dench has revealed how her pet parrot is far from cagey when it comes to saying what she thinks and she has even called the Oscar-winner a “slut”.

The national treasure was talking to the Sunday Times when she opened up about her fowl-mouthed feathered friend who’s name, ironically, is Sweetie.

She shared: “We had a long chat just now. You shouldn’t ask what she says. She says “You’re a slut”, “you’re a slag”, she has said “Boris Johnson” but she didn’t get that from me. She listens to the radio. My God, she’s funny though, she’s very, very funny. Everybody should have a parrot, or a myna bird. Their voices are absolutely incredible.”

Sweetie seems to have a liking for the s-word, having also called Dame Judi’s grandson’s girlfriend one.

Despite the bird’s vulgar language, the animal lover has previously spoken fondly of her pet, even recalling a time when she wished Sweetie could have called for help after she had a bad fall at her Surrey home due to her deteriorating eyesight.

In 2022, she said: “I had a frightful fall not long ago. I tripped over the carpet, and there was nobody in the house and I was lying on the ground unable to get up for half an hour. I have a wonderful parrot who kept saying, ‘What are you doing? What are you doing? ‘ This is when you need a very convenient parrot who would phone somebody but she didn’t.”

As for her upcoming birthday plans, Dame Judi confirmed she will be dining out with her daughter Finty Williams and her TikTok star grandson Sam Williams.

007 producer Barbara Broccoli will also be treating her to lunch at The Ivy.

Probably best to not bring Sweetie along to that one. Her vocabulary wouldn’t be too welcome at the posh London restaurant.
