Sunbathing horror as vacationer ‘immediately killed’ on the seaside at Brit vacation hotspot
A woman sunbathing on a beach has been killed by 4×4 pick up truck that drove right over her. The incident happened at the popular Playa del Ingles, in the south of Gran Canarias, Canary Islands.
It is reported the tragedy happened while the 64-year-old’s husband was swimming in the sea as she relaxed on the beach.
The resort is one of the most famous beach resorts on the island and is widely considered to be a friendly resort for everyone including LGBT travellers, families with kids, sunbathers, families and young singles.

The driver of the vehicle claimed that he had no idea that he had hit someone after he was tracked and questioned by police after lunch on the same day as the incident.
The tragic incident happened near the famous Maspalomas Dunes and a few feet away from a beach kiosk. It is believed the driver of the vehicle was delivering merchandise to the kiosk when the incident happened.
A police investigation has been opened and the initial inquiry is focused on determining if the quad bike was on the beach outside the permitted hours of 8am-11am or if it followed the designated route for deliveries.

The government is yet to confirm the nationality of the victim however, she is believed to be a German tourist.
A spokesperson for the regional government’s emergency response coordination centre said, “A woman has died after being run over by a beach on Gran Canaria.”
“The incident occurred around 12.30pm yesterday at Playa del Ingles in the municipality of San Bartolome de Tirajana, She was confirmed dead after beach lifeguards responded with initial medical assistance. Police attended the scene along with paramedics”
The resort where the woman was staying at, Playa del Ingles, have been approached to comment on the accident.
