Luton Town and Swansea City’s conflict delayed attributable to medical emergency in crowd

Luton Town’s clash with Swansea was delayed after a medical emergency.

The two sides had been due to kick off in the Championship at 3pm on Saturday afternoon (December 7) – but the game was delayed by 15 minutes due to a medical emergency at Kenilworth Road.

A tweet from the home side read: “Please be advised that due to a medical emergency in the stand, kick-off will be delayed by 15 minutes. Our thoughts are with the Hatters supporter for a speedy recovery.”

Luton updated fans on social media, revealing the supporter had been taken to hospital for treatment: “We are relieved to report that the Luton Town supporter who fell ill in the Kenilworth Road stand is in a stable condition and is on his way to hospital.

“Once again, our thoughts are with him and we all hope he makes a speedy recovery.” Swansea City also extended their well-wishes with a post on social media.

They said: “Due to a medical emergency in the stand here at Kenilworth Road, kick-off will be delayed by 15 minutes. Our thoughts are with the @LutonTown supporter for a speedy recovery.”

Luton and Swansea players had been warming up when the incident occurred.

The game was dedicated to the British Heart Foundation. Ahead of the game, Luton explained why they dedicated the game to the foundation: “With the first anniversary of our captain Tom Lockyer suffering a cardiac arrest on the pitch at Bournemouth approaching.

“The charity with whom we have worked closely in recent months will be out on the Kenilworth Apron before the game spreading the word on their Every Minute Matters campaign and the importance of learning CPR.”
