Cadbury festive favorite faraway from cabinets forward of Christmas and followers are fuming
The long-time festive favourite vanished from shelves, but confectioners Terrys stepped forward to ‘save Christmas’ and offer plenty of fans a free Chocolate orange this festive season
Christmas fans were left devastated after a famous Cadbury product was taken off shelves just weeks before the big day.
The confectionary giant revealed their Cadbury Hot Chocolate has been removed due to a “food quality issue” which will not be sorted until later in December. Shoppers initially felt confused after scanning shelves across multiple supermarkets and not being able to find the product. One X user asked Cadburys online: “Where is all of your hot chocolate???? No shop seems to have it?!”
This news comes just a couple of weeks after it was confirmed the company were axing the popular biscuits Festive Friends. However, another popular confectionary company, Terrys, has assured fans they can rely on their famous Chocolate Oranges for their Christmas fix.

Cadbury UK responded reassuringly to their online questions: “We aim to have Cadbury Hot Chocolate back in stores by mid-December. We do, however, have a range of other drinking chocolates, such as Cadbury Bournville Cocoa and Cadbury Highlights, for you to enjoy. We apologise for the inconvenience.”
Foster’s Food Fair again informed customers on their blog about the shortage. “Cadbury is withdrawing from the sale of Cadbury Drinking Chocolate products as a precautionary measure. They have identified a food quality issue in some products due to production variability.
“This means that, in some instances, the texture and colour of the product may not look as expected. The company is recalling the following products: Cadbury Drinking Chocolate (Fairtrade).”
Customers can receive refunds from certain outlets, but they flooded social media with furious comments asking suppliers where they could find the product. “Have Tesco stopped selling their sachets of Cadbury Hot Chocolate,” enquired another.
However, the humble Terry’s Chocolate Orange, which has long been a Christmas favourite with it making its way into one out of four stockings each year. Now Terry’s has come out in an attempt to “save Christmas.”
Lorène Decam, Senior Marketing Manager at Terry’s Chocolate said: ‘’When we saw the disappointed comments we knew we had to step in – it is the season of giving after all! And now there’s even more room for the real festive favourite to shine this year!’’
In response, the brand is giving away hundred of free chocolate oranges this year, which customers can claim here. They have the choice of the bog-standard chocolate orange, the plain Milk Chocolate Ball or the Mint Ball.
