Robbie Mustoe & Tim Howard SLAM Wesley Fofana asking not to play for Leicester amid Chelsea rumors

In spite of Wesley Fofana‘s desire to move on from the King Power Stadium, there are still games to be played and 11 days until the end of the summer transfer window.

Even still, the defender reportedly ‘wasn’t in the right frame of mind’ to be playing today according to manager Brendan Rodgers, after the manager hinted at Fofana’s absence in the runup to the match this weekend.

That drew ire from fans of the Foxes, and some of the media as they criticized him for not wanting to do the job he’s being paid to do.

NBC Sports commentators Robbie Mustoe and Tim Howard expressed their frustration at the French defender just before kickoff of Leicester’s match against Southampton.

‘In terms of behavior, I really don’t like it. He’s 21 years of age, he’s on the back of a season last year where he broke his leg, so he’s just coming back,’ Mustoe said on the air.

‘If the club’s are going to agree a fee, they’re going to agree a fee. If he’s asking not to play, that’s just not good. He signed a five-year deal in March.

‘Get your head down, do your job, what you’re paid for. If the deal is agreed, you’ll go… but I really dislike players saying they don’t want to play.’

Mustoe’s colleague Tim Howard echoed similar sentiments, saying he believes there’s a right way and a wrong way to go about your time at a club you won’t stay at forever.

NBC commentators Tim Howard and Robbie Mustoe think Fofana is letting his team down

‘When we first saw Wesley Fofana, we didn’t think he was going to be at Leicester that long, he was that good,’ the former American goalkeeper said.

‘When a player wants to move on, sometimes they have to force the move, sometimes their agent tells them to say something. There’s different permutations to this. He may think he’s got to force his way out.

‘When I left Everton, I sat down in Roberto Martinez’s office, a man I respected and a football club I loved, and I said, “I’d like to leave, I’ve got to go home, this is my time.” He said, “absolutely, we’ll do everything we can.” Next game I was on the bench, I was like: “That’s not what I asked for, hang on, I need to leave at the end of the season, don’t bench me now!”‘ So there’s lot of permutations to this.’

Howard added an example of a player he believed was going about their business the right way, playing well for their current club while potentially looking elsewhere.

‘Declan Rice has done it right, he will not be a West Ham player in the future, but you’ve not heard a peep from him. Fofana, 21 years of age… sit down with the manager and the football club and say, “I want to leave, but that being said, I’ll be the hardest trainer and you can count on me”. There’s a right way to go about it.’
