Mohamed Salah admits he is ‘not joyful’ after Liverpool’s nine-goal thriller with Tottenham
Mohamed Salah was in lethal form as Liverpool thumped Tottenham 6-3 but the Egyptian was not entirely happy with his side’s performance, despite the emphatic win
Mohamed Salah has called out Liverpool for their shaky defence despite the team thrashing Tottenham.
After banging in a double to secure Arne Slot’s squad a hefty 6-3 triumph over Spurs on Sunday evening, the Egyptian king didn’t hold back. The Reds now sit pretty, four points clear at the top of the Premier League table with a game in hand over Chelsea, as they brace for the festive period.
Salah’s second screamer pushed Liverpool ahead to 5-1, but goals from Dejan Kulusevski and Dominic Solanke gave Spurs a sliver of hope in the last 20.
Unfortunately for Tottenham, the late mini surge didn’t do justice to Liverpool’s total domination, putting a bit of a damper on Salah’s celebratory mood. Despite helping shove the title charge further along, the striker was blunt about needing a defensive boost, reports the Mirror.
“We worked quite good upfront but defensively we need to improve as a team. Conceding three goals is quite hard. But it’s a good result. We expected [chaos] the way they play, they open the game,” Salah weighed in post-match to Sky Sports.
“They enjoy their football, physically tough and mentally we always have to be in the game. They have the way they play, they don’t change it much. You see other teams come here and struggle.
“I’m happy we won because they play an intense game. It’s great to achieve that [fourth all-time Liverpool scorer] at such a big club, but the most important thing is that we won the game. Wherever I am going to end my career I am happy about it.”
Salah also provided the assist for Dominik Szoboszlai’s goal just before the break, making him the first player in Premier League history to hit double figures in both goals and assists before Christmas. With his contract winding down, Salah gave a curt “No” when quizzed about an update on his future.
