Explosion of violence on Costa Del Sol with homicide, medication and man shot in penis
A spate of shootings and killings in the Costas, is freaking out locals and giving the area a bad name with reports ‘entire British criminal organisations’ have moved out to the son
Spain’s Mediterranean coastline usually conjures thoughts of lazy poolside days, soaking up the sun with a good book and a few cocktails. However, the sun-soaked Costas – favoured by many British holiday-makers – is earning a reputation as a hotspot for violent crime.
Since the Christmas period, there has been an explosion of violence in Costa Del Sol and other costal areas in Spain. On Tuesday, the decomposing body of Belfast dad-of-two, John George, was found under a lemon tree just off a road in Rojales.
Blood stains from his body being dragged into the bushes were still visible on the remote street two days after the grim discovery, reports the Sun. A Czech man has been arrested in connection to John’s murder but the motive for the killing remains unclear.
After almost a month of searching for his son’s body, Billy said he was bringing John’s body home. “We came out to get John, we’ve got John,’ said the heartbroken father.
“Now we’re bringing him back home where he belongs.” Within days of the Northern Irish man going missing three weeks ago, a Lithuanian man was shot dead after he tried to creep into a villa being used as a cannabis grow-house.
The shooting took place within walking distance to where John’s body was found in the early hours of December 17. A neighbour said the 39-year-old was caught trying to steal some of the plants in the villa.
He said: “I heard gunshots at around 1.30am coming from the villa that my property backs on to. Everyone knew there was a cannabis farm there. You could smell it. Apparently a Lithuanian man had gone in and tried to steal some of the plants. Someone inside shot him dead.”
In Puerto Banus on January 2, a former Hells Angel was shot three times after he alerted his enemies of his location via a social media post. Saman Baghi, from Germany, had posted a story on Instagram of him on an exercise bike in Real Club Padel.
Within hours, the body builder and ex-MMA fighter, was shot by a man in black gym gear as he left the gym. German paper Bild reported: “One bullet went through his buttocks and grazed his penis, the second hit his anus, the third pierced his left leg.”
Despite the severe injuries, the hard man discharged himself from hospital on the same day. In a separate incident in December last year, one man was shot in the head in Fuengirola.
On Christmas Eve, a German national was shot and injured close to a Puerto Banus shopping centre. And on Boxing Day, two alleged drug traffickers from Sweden were fired at with assault rifles in Benalmadena.
The explosion of bloody violence in the Costas is believed to be linked to the ruthless drugs trade. Spanish journalist Nacho Carretero, who inspired TV crime drama Marbella with his reporting, said entire drug gangs have moved to the Spanish holiday destinations.
He said: “Once it was just the bosses who lived here. But now it’s the whole organisation, including the soldiers, so you have these kids from the streets of Liverpool or Dublin.
“They often get into trouble for misbehaving.”
