The Masked Singer choose Joel Dommett breaks silence on Macy Gray drama after US singer stormed off the ITV present
Joel Dommett has broken his silence after Macy Gray ‘stormed off’ The Masked Singer on Saturday night after being the latest celebrity voted off.
The presenter said it is the ‘funniest thing I’ve ever seen in my life’ as the American singer, who was dressed as a giant Toad, walked-off the stage after the results.
Speaking to Paddy Mcguinness on BBC Radio 2 on Sunday, Joel joked that Macy couldn’t be disappointed about leaving the show early ‘because you get the same money and you don’t have to do anything else’.
He said: ‘This is why the Masked Singer is so good, it doesn’t matter if you’re a good singer or if you’re not, the show doesn’t sit in either camp.
‘The case with Macy is she is a legend, she has a recognisable voice and she might as well go because we all know it is her and they put the other person through because we still don’t know who they are.
‘If you go home early though it is a win win situation because you get the same money and you don’t have to do anything else.’

He continued: ‘You can’t be vexed when your dressed as a toad. In my professional career, I love Macy she is incredible, great voice, but I have never witnessed anything more funny than a 6ft toad storming off, its the funniest thing I’ve ever seen in my life.
‘And my shorts, I suggested we make them shorter for each AD break as a joke and they did it and when she stormed off I was in like hot pants.’
Macy did not look impressed and completely shocked ITV viewers as she walked off the stage after being announced as the latest celebrity to be leaving The Masked Singer UK.
The American singer had to remove her costume head to reveal her identity after being voted off after performing against Bear, Wolf, Pufferfish and Bush.
Joel has also re-shared a clip to his Instagram grid of him hosting the show as Macy walked off and simply wrote: ‘lol’.
Meanwhile judge Maya Jama shared a TikTok created by ITVX of Macy’s walk-off which read: ‘Me at any inconvenience:’
It comes after a source claimed that Macy was completely ‘blindsided’ by being one of the first contestants to leave the UK show after reaching the final of the US version in 2023 which she was disguised as the Sea Queen.
Macy was reportedly ‘shellshocked’ and ‘gutted’ to be leaving the hit ITV show so early as she enjoyed participating in the American version.

Speaking to The Sun, the insider claimed: ‘When Macy stormed off stage everyone was frozen in shock but as soon as she reached backstage, crew removed her mask so they could talk her down.
‘It was the shock of it for her as well as the upset and in that moment she had a very raw, human reaction and wanted out. For a professional performer to reach that point shows how badly she felt.’
MailOnline have contacted ITV for comment.
Once she removed her mask, Macy had a face like thunder and couldn’t hide her anger during the interview, replying to Joel’s questions with blunt, one-worded answers.
Watching the dramatic moment, viewers took to X in their droves to comment and they were all saying the same thing – how ‘awkward’ the whole thing was.
Prue Leith was the first person voted off the show after being revealed as Pegasus, while Kate Garraway was the second to be out after being unmasked as Spag Bol.
It comes after host Joel, 39, revealed the return of the Masked Singer ‘has got weirder’ as he said new show judge Maya Jama, 30, ‘lives a really ridiculous life’.

Speaking to Principle Magazine, Joel said: ‘It’s getting weirder. I think it’s getting odder and odder.
‘And if you thought it was weird before, it’s getting even more strange. And also we’re getting more confident as a production.
‘We’re putting in more twists and turns and interesting elements to it that you wouldn’t necessarily expect with the format.
‘It’s just fun and we’re really enjoying it, but production certainly is letting me do pretty much whatever I want.’
The Masked Singer continues on ITV1 and ITVX on Saturday January 18 at 7pm.
