Police’s 45-day search by means of landfill web site results in discovery of man’s physique
Police have confirmed the body found at a landfill site in Essex on Saturday is of Cumali Turhan, 46, who was last seen in the early hours of November 19 leaving a Chelmsford pub
After 45 days of searching, Essex Police have found a body at a landfill site while investigating the disappearance of a man. Essex Police discovered the body of Cumali Turhan, 46, on Saturday. Authorities expressed serious concerns for Turhan’s welfare after he was last seen at The Globe pub in Rainsford Road, Chelmsford, on November 19.
The police are now seeking Ceyhan Dinler, 38, in connection with Turhan’s disappearance. Dinler left the UK via London Stansted Airport on the same day that Turhan was last heard from.
A second man, Ciprian Ilie, 44, has been charged with assisting an offender between November 18 and November 20, as well as to preventing the lawful and decent burial of a dead body.
Ilie appeared in Chelmsford Crown Court last month and pleaded not guilty to the charges. Ilie has been remanded in custody until September 15, when he is scheduled to stand trial, reports Mirror.
Detective Chief Inspector Louise Metcalfe said: “Specialist officers have been working diligently for 45 days at the landfill site in conditions that have called heavily on their resilience.
“Their hard work has continued unabated even during the extreme weather to support detectives who have worked quickly to progress the extremely challenging investigation.
“Throughout this difficult time, we have been in regular contact with Cumali’s family. They will continue to be supported by specialist officers as it will take some time for them to come to terms with this news.”
It is thought that Turhan might have left The Globe and headed to a local bar called Barista, but CCTV does not show him leaving.
Essex Police said enquiries at the landfill site where the body was found are expected to continue for several days. The force is also urging anyone who has information that may help the investigation to report it.
