Sleep-starved Brits are on the lookout for the ‘right side of the bed’ and it seems it’s been found in a picturesque UK county.

Snooze specialists have concocted plans for an idyllic escape aimed to harness natural daylight to improve your kip. They’ve pinpointed the easternmost point of good old Blighty – choosing a prime location in Suffolk.

Enter the scene, the ambitious designs for a one-of-a-kind Breaking Dawn retreat planned to welcome sleepyheads by July 2025. Potentially poised at Ness Point, Lowestoft, it stands as the most easterly point reachable in the nation. The kicker? It’s where the sun first waves hello to the UK each morning. And this burst of sunrise is the magic potion for sound sleep.

The top-dog slumber gurus from Simba and The Sleep Charity have teamed up to launch this visionary retreat. Serving up intel on why that early beam of light is so critical.

Lisa Artis of The Sleep Charity spells it out: “Morning light is the single most important ingredient for setting our circadian clock. It helps our body clock match nature’s day-night cycle.”

She adds: “This makes our sleep routine stronger, keeping us awake in the daytime and ready for sleep at night. At night, light can disturb your sleep, but in the morning, it can be the golden ticket to better rest.”

Dramatic floor-to-ceiling windows with precision-automated blinds, timed to rise exactly at sunrise, are a key feature of an apartment that is awaiting local council approval. The design aims to encourage guests to wake gradually in each of the four sleep-optimised suites at this first-of-its-kind sleep retreat.

The Breaking Dawn retreat’s plans come on the back of new research from Simba, which reveals that nearly a third of Brits (33%) get less than three hours of daylight exposure daily in summer, a figure that rises to two-thirds of adults in winter. This lack of sunlight can severely impact sleep quality, mental health and overall well-being, underlining the need for greater awareness of daylight.

The data also indicates that nearly half of Brits (42%) now prioritise rest, sleep and reconnecting with nature when booking holidays. Early images of the Breaking Dawn retreat show natural noise-absorbing pulp panels for peaceful acoustics.

Simba is also working with sound engineers to create healing 528 Hz frequency playlists and 432 Hz compilations to promote a greater connection with nature, reduce cortisol levels and increase oxytocin. The Breaking Dawn retreat won’t just rely on sunlight to improve your rest.

A breakfast menu, rich in melatonin will also be served to visitors

Each suite will be equipped with Simba’s award-winning cool-touch pillows and duvets, featuring patented Stratos technology.

Guests at the new wellness retreat will discover how natural light can boost energy and set their internal clocks for a deeper kip. They’ll be treated to a brekkie menu packed with sleep-friendly ingredients like melatonin, tryptophan, serotonin, and Vitamin D, not to mention smoothies that help keep stress hormone cortisol in check.

Simba CEO Steve Reid chimed in: “Sleep was once considered the dullest thing you could do on holiday, now it’s celebrated as an essential reset for the mind and body. People are increasingly aware of the harmful effects of high cortisol levels linked to stress and disrupted sleep patterns.”

He added, “With more of us struggling with sleep, quality rest has become a precious commodity. It’s essential for your body and brain to function properly and can add years to your life.”

Reid revealed that Simba is in talks with local authorities to launch the project and expects ‘further updates in the near future’. If it gets the green light, a stay at Simba’s Breaking Dawn retreat will kick off at £295 a night.
