Daily Star takes on the three best ways to eat a Creme Egg
Creme Egg lovers reckon they’ve finally cracked the best way to eat one – so we put it to the test.
They agree that the top method involves biting off the top and using your tongue to lap up the goo, before polishing off the shell. A quarter of fans of the Cadbury’s chocolate treat said it’s their preferred tactic.
But simply biting into the egg and eating the choc and filling together was a close second, at 23%. Other favourite methods include sucking the fondant out of the shell (15%) and ‘peeling’ the foil back like a banana and eating it bit by bit (13%).
The top 10 techniques also include cooling it in the fridge first, nibbling it like a small animal (8%), scoffing the egg all in one (7%) and spooning out the inside (3%). Splitting the shell in half and slurping out the filling like an oyster also ranked highly.
Our intrepid reporter James Caven gave the top few methods a spin and now gives his verdict on the best way to eat a Creme Egg.
He says: “Biting the top off the shell and using your tongue to devour the fondant is clearly the superior method. It enables you to properly taste the filling while also enjoying the chocolatey hit, and it’s not too messy either.
“Don’t get me wrong, scoffing the egg all in one is always a tempting method too, but there’s a risk it can leave you feeling slightly queasy. Nibbling it bit by bit might be a safe technique, but, if we’re being honest, it is slightly boring.

“And while splitting it in half and eating it like an oyster might sound promising, it’s a bit too fancy and can go horribly wrong if you don’t quite halve it right. But one thing’s for sure – as long as you cool it in the fridge first, you should be alright however you choose to eat it.”
Cadbury’s asked Creme Egg lovers their preferred way of enjoying the sugary treat. A poll of 1,500 unveiled the most popular methods of consuming a Cadbury Creme Egg – and the techniques vary from traditional to downright bizarre.
Cadbury, the creators of the iconic treat, commissioned the research as part of its ‘Admit It To Win’ competition encouraging fans to share their unique eating habits for a chance to win up to £10,000.
Cadbury spokesperson Joshua Collier said: “We’ve long asked ‘how do you eat yours?’
“But honestly, there’s no right or wrong way and people should do their thing – we’re finding more and more wacky ways people are eating theirs.
“Some of them are almost unbelievable, and there are methods we’d never even thought of, after having produced Cadbury Creme Eggs for more than 60 years.
“Food is deeply personal, and the way we enjoy it often says something about who we are. That’s why experimenting with how we eat isn’t just fun – it’s an expression of individuality.
“Cadbury Creme Eggs have been a canvas for playful indulgence for decades, inspiring everything from debates to challenges, and this spirit of experimentation is something to be cherished.”
