Arsenal switch information: Mikel Arteta dealt switch blow as ‘U-turn’ leaves Gunners annoyed
Arsenal are still yet to make a breakthrough in the January transfer window despite Mikel Arteta admitting the Gunners were working hard to bring in new recruits
The January transfer window is in full swing, yet Arsenal are still waiting for a fresh face to walk through their doors.
Mikel Arteta has confessed that the Gunners are striving to seize any opportunities, particularly given the current injury crisis at the club. “My answer doesn’t change,” the Spanish manager stated.
“We are actively looking in the market to improve the squad. We have been since day one. It would be naive not to do that because there is always an opportunity to evolve the team and improve the squad. Especially with the circumstances we have.”
Ronald Araujo has delivered Arsenal a blow as the Gunners prepared to make an offer for the Barcelona defender. After instructing his agents to find an exit route from Camp Nou, Juventus have already seen a bid rejected by Barca.
The Italians were said to be considering their options with Arsenal plotting to enter the race. However, Araujo has now been persuaded by sporting director Deco to remain with the Catalan side.
The Uruguay international’s contract expires in 2026 but after missing much of this season to a hamstring injury has made just two appearances in 2024/25.
Mundo Deportivo report Araujo took a ‘radical turn’ following his outing in the Super Cup win over Real Madrid, with Deco making a breakthrough following talks on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler has expressed willingness to let Evan Ferguson join a Premier League rival on loan, provided it aids his development, reports the Mirror.
“We will negotiate what is important for him, what is important for his development, where he can improve the best and then we will make the decision together,” Hurzeler stated.
“This decision should be what is best for the player and for the club. We sent (Facundo) Buonanotte, for example, to Leicester.” Hurzeler added that the Premier League is an ideal environment for young players to improve, citing its toughness and intensity.
However, Arsenal’s hopes of securing a loan deal for Ferguson appear slim, as they already have two Premier League players on loan in Neto and Raheem Sterling, and are not permitted to add more.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has given the green light to Kieran Tierney’s potential move back to Celtic. The Arsenal defender, who is in the final six months of his contract, is tipped to leave for a new challenge in the summer.
The Scotland international can now engage in talks with other clubs, and a return to the Bhoys seems to be on the cards for the next season.
After initiating discussions with Celtic earlier this month and being close to a pre-contract agreement, it appears that Tierney has moved forward with the process.
