Donald Trump has vowed to blow the lid off decades of secrets surrounding the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy, Senator Robert F. Kennedy, and civil rights icon Martin Luther King Jr.

The US President signed a bombshell executive order in the Oval Office yesterday, demanding the immediate declassification of all remaining files related to the three murders, which have fuelled countless conspiracy theories for over half a century.

“This is a big one, huh?” Trump quipped as he scrawled his signature. “A lot of people have been waiting for this for years, for decades. Everything will be revealed.”

The sensational move comes after years of delays and redactions that have kept the most explosive documents under lock and key. But Trump insists the time for secrecy is over.

“More than 50 years after the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy, Senator Robert F. Kennedy, and the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the federal government has not released to the public all of its records related to those events,” the president declared.

“Their families and the American people deserve transparency and truth. It’s in the national interest to finally release all records related to these assassinations without delay.”

JFK was gunned down in Dallas in 1963, with Lee Harvey Oswald officially recognised as the lone shooter – though many have questioned whether he acted alone or if there was a larger conspiracy at play.

The president’s brother Robert met a similarly grim fate in 1968 while campaigning for the White House, with Sirhan Sirhan convicted of his murder. Meanwhile, Martin Luther King Jr., the face of the civil rights movement, was shot dead that same year in Memphis, allegedly by James Earl Ray.

For decades, rumours of shadowy plots involving the CIA, FBI, and other groups have swirled around the assassinations, keeping the conspiracy cottage industry alive. Trump’s decision to release everything could finally answer the big questions.

“All the redactions, all the hidden stuff – it’s not in the public interest to keep this secret anymore,” Trump’s order states. “The American people have waited long enough. Let’s get it all out there.”

The order instructs intelligence agencies to draw up a plan within 15 days to release all JFK-related records, with a further 45 days to tackle the Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr. files.

In true Trump style, the president hyped up the dramatic reveal: “This is going to be big. People have been wondering about these files for years. Now we’re going to give them the answers.”

Whether the release puts an end to the conspiracy theories or just adds fuel to the fire, one thing’s for sure – this decision has reopened one of America’s greatest unsolved mysteries. And in classic Trump fashion, it’s guaranteed to have everyone talking.
