Man Utd switch information: Antony seals Real Betis transfer with five-word message
Manchester United flop Antony has explained his delight at leaving Old Trafford after having joined La Liga side Real Betis on-loan for the remainder of the 2024/25 season
Manchester United winger Antony is all smiles again after agreeing to join Real Betis on loan.
After United agreed to terms with the La Liga side, the Brazilian couldn’t hide his joy while chatting to journalists at a Spanish airport. “I’m so happy, I’m ready,” he beamed.
His tumultuous time at Old Trafford is drawing to a close following his hefty £85 million transfer from Ajax back in 2022. Despite racking up 96 appearances, Antony’s spell at United has been nothing short of an abject disaster.
With just three starts this season, chances have been slim for the 24-year-old. While he is expected to be a part of Betis’ first-team plans immediately, he will likely have to wait until next week’s fixture against Athletic Bilbao to make his debut, reports the Mirror.
United’s manager Ruben Amorim previously pledged his commitment to Antony’s form revival last month, commenting: “He needs more confidence. If you remember the Antony at Ajax, he lacks a little bit of confidence to go one-v-one, so he will improve.
“But he’s working really hard, he’s trying, he’s playing more inside than outside, especially in this game (against Tottenham). You have to do that to work really hard and that will help him to be a better player.”
The January transfer window buzz suggests Antony won’t be the only player United part ways with either. Despite featuring in midweek against Rangers in the Europa League, Alejandro Garnacho’s future remains up in the air.
Napoli, who sold Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to Paris Saint-Germain this month, is looking for a replacement, with Garnacho rumoured to be on their shortlist of potential replacements for the Georgian winger.
And Marcus Rashford’s future also remains in the balance. While it looks like Rashford’s United career is well and truly over, there seems to have been little progress on moving the 27-year-old on.
AC Milan had been mooted as a potential landing spot for the United forward, but that move now looks to be dead in the water after the Serie A side confirmed the loan signing of Kyle Walker from Manchester City.
Chelsea are in the mix as suitors for Rashford, while Borussia Dortmund and Barcelona remain watchful but have yet to make a formal move.
