Boy, 10, suffers life-changing injuries after 72-year-old motorist collided with mourners

A 10-year-old boy has been left with life changing injuries and four others have been hospitalised after a car ploughed into them in a church carpark. 

The car collided with the group of mourners at a memorial service being held at Christ Church on Cabul Road in Wandsworth, south west London on Sunday evening before veering off into a tree. 

Police have said the boy is currently in hospital receiving treatment for life changing injuries. The rest of the group were also taken to hospital after the incident at 7.30pm.

The driver, a 72-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of motoring offences including causing serious injury. 

He has been bailed to a date in mid-September pending further enquiries. 

Detectives from the Roads and Transport Policing Command are investigating the incident. 

Detective Constable Benjamin Simpson said: ‘This is a very sad incident in which multiple pedestrians were injured in a private car park at a memorial service.

‘We are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or who has any information to come forward and contact the police.’
