Luke Humphries has revealed he is desperate to win the Premier League as the World No.1 looks to complete the Triple Crown.

‘Cool Hand’ has enjoyed arguably one of the greatest two years by any player on the PDC circuit with him topping the world rankings and lifting the World Darts Championship and the World Matchplay last year.

But it if wasn’t for Luke Littler, Humphries’ domination would be even greater, and he also may have already claimed darts’ Triple Crown last year after he was beaten in the Premier League final by ‘The Nuke’.

Having got his year off to the perfect start by lifting the World Masters, Humphries has the taste back after being dumped out of the world champs by Peter Wright in the fourth round.

Speaking to BetMGM Premier League Darts, Humphries made no secret of his desire to win the Premier League at the O2 in May, saying: “It would mean a lot to me. It’s the biggest one that I haven’t got yet,” he said.

“I’ve won the Matchplay and won the worlds – the Premier League makes it the Triple Crown, the three biggest tournaments on the calendar.

“To win them all in such a short space of time would mean a lot and not many people have done it. This is the one that’s missing for me. That’s why it would mean so much. It would be amazing to achieve something so few players have.”

Of the majors Humphries is yet to win following his incredible two years, remains just the European Championship and the UK Open as well as the Premier League.

The 29-year-old will get his campaign underway tonight as he looks to tick off the biggest exhibition tournament in the sport. Humphries takes on Nathan Aspinall in the hope of setting up a semi-final against either Luke Littler or Michael van Gerwen.

Humphries added that he also has the belief to go one further than last year. “The talent has always been there. I’m incredibly proud of myself – once you unlock that talent it brings you a huge amount of joy. To be world number one is an incredible privilege.

“The self-belief that I have now is at its highest, the best it could be. When you are winning a lot of games it gives you so much confidence and that’s what makes me really dangerous.”
