Gerwyn Price reacted angrily to whistling hecklers during his Premier League defeat to Luke Humphries in Glasgow.

Night 2 in the Premier League at the OVO Arena saw the first time Scotland were not represented by a player in the tournament. While the home support didn’t have a player in particular to back, they sure made their feelings clear to some players, jeering and putting off stars.

Whistling continues to be a major problem within darts and those issues were seen again in Glasgow, most notably towards Welshman Price. During the second semi-final of the night, as the ‘Iceman’ started the fourth leg, a sharp whistle could be heard from the crowd.

Price is known to regularly be on the end of heckles and whistles from the crowd, despite the former being renounced, and the latter banned, as fans risk the threat of being removed from the arena and banned if found. Sadly, Price has had to grow thick skin to it and avoid being put off by the crowd’s behaviour.

But in Glasgow, Price snapped back after he fired in a 180. He immediately turned to the crowd and whistled back, seeing Humphries, who has been on the receiving end of some vicious jeers in the past, burst out laughing and put his fingers towards his ears as the two joked about the response in good spirit.

As Price returned to the back of the stage as Humphries stepped up to throw, Gezzy was seen mouthing “f*** off” in response to the hecklers.

Darts fans on social media reacted to Price’s retort, with one user saying: “The PDC Premier League is a great spectacle. Best vs best every week but a***holes in crowd whistling need ejecting immediately. Zero tolerance, a handful ruin it for thousands. Fair play to Price for whistling back and then telling them to f*** off”.”

Former Premier League player Mark Webster sympathised with Price and said on Sky Sports commentary: “Whistling is something which grates with the players.”

However, Price was unable to reach the final as the World No.1 came from 4-2 down to reel off four straight legs to win 6-4 and reach the final. Humphries was unable to win successive Premier League nights as Luke Littler took the glory in Glasgow with a 6-5 victory.
