What Arne Slot discovered as Liverpool survive temporary Wolves comeback at Anfield
Liverpool had to ride the storm on Sunday afternoon as the Reds welcomed Wolves to Anfield – they had been cruising to victory before Cunha sparked a brief comeback
Liverpool are back to winning ways after being stunned in the Merseyside Derby.
It was all the Reds for the first half after an early Luis Diaz goal was doubled by Mohamed Salah from the penalty spot. However, the Reds weren’t without their moments of the worry – a shocking dive from Diogo Jota was doubled with Matheus Cunha pulling one back.
All of a sudden Liverpool couldn’t string together three passes and Wolves were in the ascendancy. However, the Reds were able to keep their heads and Daily Star Sport has a look at what Arne Slot got wrong and right on Sunday afternoon.
Sign the contract Mo Salah
Mohamed Salah is a man made to make history.
Salah, who has less than six months left on his deal on Merseyside, is closing in on another record, when he dispatched from the spot. Salah has 101 Premier League goals at Anfield – only Thierry Henry (114 at Highbury) and Sergio Aguero (106 at the Etihad) have more at home.
Salah is showing no signs of slowing down – and Arne Slot has to find a way to keep at the club for another season, he’s just to valuable to let walk away.
Taking control of the midfield
Liverpool let the game with Everton get to chaotic, which allowed that equaliser in 96th minute from James Tarkowski.
Arne Slot looked to combat this against Wolves, when he introduced Wataru Endo from off the bench. “From the looks here, Slot has done well to congest the midfield. Endo is doing well so far,” one fan shared on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“Endo’s on now, so defensively we should be better,” a second said. And another added: “The Endo sub, is very much Slot realising his Everton mistake…”
Wilting under pressure
Arne Slot needs to find a way to keep his Liverpool team calm – they’re flying high at the top of the Premier League but a couple of results have gone against them in recent weeks.
And the second Matheus Cunha pulled one back for Wolves there was a sudden sense of worry on the banks of the River Mersey.
it could be down to fatigue, it could be down to worry – having battled with Manchester City down the years when they simply can’t drop points – but Slot needs to nip this in the bud immediately.
