Premier League situation assertion as Diogo Jota produces ‘worst dive of all time’
Diogo Star avoided a yellow card during Liverpool’s clash with Wolves after he committed ‘the worst dive of all time’ and the Premier League have now released a statement
Liverpool star Diogo Jota somehow avoided a yellow card against Wolves.
And the Premier League have now issued a statement following, what fans called, the ‘worst dive of all time’. Emmanuel Agbadou had initially been penalised for an apparent foul on Jota as he shifted on to his right in the 57th minute.
However replays showed that the only contact came from Jota clipping the Wolves defender’s torso with his foot.
And a statement read: “VAR checked the referee’s call of penalty to Liverpool for a challenge by Agbadou on Jota and deemed any contact was not initiated by Agbadou, therefore recommended an on-field review.
“The referee overturned the original decision and play restarted with a drop ball.” However, Jota managed to avoid a yellow card for simulation.
“Jota got caught diving in 4K and didn’t get booked after VAR… What is the point,” one fan fumed. While a second posted: “Why has Diogo Jota not been booked for one of the most blatant dives you’re ever likely to see? Plain and simple he tried to cheat…”
“Jota is so shameless man,” a third said. And a fourth added: “See Jota commit the worst dive ever in HD 1080p at 3 different angles and don’t book him for it after…”
“Given we came close to bottling that, Jota choosing to dive when he had such an easy chance to put us 3-0 up was unbelievably stupid,” a fifth shared.
Liverpool were two goals to the good at the time thanks to an early goal from Luis Diaz, while Mohamed Salah scored a 37th-minute penalty after Diaz was fouled by Wolves stopper Jose Sa.
However, Wolves hit back through Matheus Cunha, soon after the penalty decision was reversed.
Arne Slot’s side looked nervous all of a sudden, and they struggled to string together three passes but still managed to limp over the line to extend their lead at the top of Premier League.
